Learning about what you eat is as important as knowing one's letters and numbers

If young children are immersed within a culture of health and taught how wonderfully delicious fresh fruits and vegetables taste, they will choose to eat healthy and foster lifelong healthy eating habits.

The Garden of Eatin’® Living Curriculum was developed by North Bay Children’s Center (NBCC) to incorporate garden experiences and a culture of wellness into the daily curriculum for preschool children.

Created in 2004 in response to the growing childhood obesity epidemic, this program has been recognized on a national and local level as a project of exceptional community value.

In 2009, Garden of Eatin’ received the prestigious Jefferson Award for program innovation and in 2015, the University of San Francisco (UCSF) conducted a study that was published in the American Journal of Public Health on the impact that the Garden of Eatin’ program had on family food choices.

Celebrating 19 years of teaching garden-based nutrition and health education to thousands of children and childcare educators across California, let us help you implement nutrition education and outdoor learning within your classroom today!

NUTRITION EDUCATION

The first five years of a child’s life are crucial in setting the foundation for health and wellbeing across the entire lifespan. Yet studies show that most children do not eat the daily recommended amount of fresh fruits and vegetables.

CULTURE OF WELLNESS

The Garden of Eatin’® Living Curriculum instills healthy habits and weaves a culture of wellness into preschool learning programs by teaching children and their families to make healthy food choices through a unique, hands-on garden-based curriculum.

CONNECT TO NATURE

Children learn to plant, nurture, harvest, prepare, and eat fresh fruits and vegetables that they have grown, while also using the garden as an active landscape to explore, discover, and play.
